CREATE AN INSPIRATIONAL PIECE OF PUBLIC ART

We believe art has the power to change lives. We aim to build an inspirational piece of public art which will continue to have an impact on our community long after we have stuck the last bean onto the canvas.

We’ve spent months tracking down the perfect image for the mosaic. This little boy is from a small town in Ethiopia called ‘Koka’, right in the heart of a coffee growing community.

We will begin by roasting the beans to different shades to give us a palatte of colours to work with. The beans will be sorted into a numbered colour scale, with each colour corresponding to a number. The image will then be broken down into 1 million pixels and a colour will be assigned to each pixel.

We will be sending out kits to local communities which contain everything needed to complete one section of the mosaic, including an easy-to-follow template and colour guide. Once all of the individual sections have been created we will hold an inclusive community event to assemble and reveal the final artwork.

The completed mosaic will be unveiled to the general public at the London Coffee Festival 2015, after which it will find its permanent home in the local community.
